Arshia Sobhan is a Vancouver-based artist and researcher currently pursuing a PhD at Simon Fraser University’s School of Interactive Arts & Technology. His work explores the intersection of generative AI and non-Western artistic practices, with a focus on cultural knowledge, artistic agency, and creative authorship. Through practice-based research and artistic experimentation, he investigates how generative AI can support culturally situated forms of creative expression. His artworks and research have been exhibited and presented internationally, including at Ars Electronica (2024), SIGGRAPH (2024), International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA 2025 and 2026), and Design Doha Biennial (2026). Alongside his artistic practice, he actively engages with creative communities through collaborative workshops on open-source tools, making small-data generative AI more accessible to artists and encouraging alternative approaches to mainstream corporate AI.
